1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception
South Shields | Full-time | Monday–Friday | Immediate Start
We are currently recruiting for a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a male pupil in Reception at a specialist SEN school in South Shields.
This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, with supply hours of 8:30am–3:30pm. There is also the potential for the position to become permanent for the right person, at which point the hours would change to 8:00am–4:00pm.
The pupil can display challenging behaviours and behaviours that can result in self-injury, so the school is looking for someone who is patient, empathetic and confident supporting children with additional needs. The pupil may have visible bruising as a result of his self-injurious behaviour.
The successful candidate will be someone who can:
- Build a trusting and positive relationship with the pupil
- Provide calm, consistent and nurturing support
- Show patience and empathy when managing challenging behaviour
- Support the pupil with their emotional and educational needs
- Remain calm and confident when faced with difficult situations
- Work closely with the wider school team to provide consistent support
The school is currently reviewing candidate profiles and will invite suitable candidates in for a trial day. This is a quick turnaround, as the pupil is due to start at the school on Monday, so ideally they are looking for someone who can attend a trial on Monday.
If you have experience supporting children with SEN, challenging behaviour or complex needs and feel this could be a good fit for you, we would love to hear from you.
