Some children come into school carrying more than just a backpack.
We’re working with a BS3 primary school looking for a Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH needs. These are children who need help managing big emotions, building trust, and feeling safe in a classroom environment.
This role is all about relationships. The right person can make a huge difference.
What your day will involve:
You’ll work closely with pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation, helping them understand and manage their feelings. You’ll support them in class, during transitions, and in moments where things feel overwhelming.
You’ll use consistent strategies, provide reassurance, and create a sense of stability. You’ll also work alongside pastoral staff and teachers to ensure a joined-up approach.
Some days will test you, but others will remind you exactly why this role matters.
The ideal candidate:
You’re empathetic, calm, and patient. You don’t take behaviour personally, and you understand that trust takes time.
You might have experience in SEMH, care, youth work, or similar environments. You’re resilient, but also kind and reflective.
You show up, stay consistent, and don’t give up easily.
Why Protocol Education:
- Access to SEMH and behaviour training
- Weekly PAYE pay
- Long-term placements where relationships can grow
- Support from a team that understands the challenges
