Some young people don’t need fixing, they just need someone who shows up, stays patient, and believes in them on the tough days too.
We’re looking for a caring and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in a specialist school in Gateshead. You’ll be working 1:1 with students who need consistency, structure, and someone firmly in their corner.
What you’ll be doing:
• Supporting pupils with EHCPs through tailored, day-to-day learning support
• Helping children and young people reconnect with education
• Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour, and communication needs
• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff to create calm, positive routines
About the pupils:
You’ll support a mix of primary and secondary-aged students with needs including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and speech & language difficulties.
Many of these pupils have struggled in mainstream settings and thrive with patient, consistent support.
What we’re looking for:
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN
• Someone calm, adaptable, and hard to faze
• A natural relationship-builder who leads with kindness and consistency
• Thrive training would be a huge bonus. If you’re not trained yet, we can help you access FREE Thrive training through Protocol Education
Why this role matters:
You’ll be the person who helps a pupil feel safe enough to learn again. That’s no small thing.
