Our specialist provision in Shrewsbury supports pupils aged 5–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing a nurturing, structured and inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to succeed.
The provision offers personalised education for pupils with a range of needs, including SEMH difficulties, trauma, attachment difficulties and challenging behaviour. Many pupils have previously struggled to engage with education or have experienced negative or disrupted educational experiences.
Through a tailored and engaging curriculum, pupils are supported to develop confidence, resilience, independence and a positive attitude towards learning. Positive relationships are at the heart of the provision, with a holistic approach that recognises the individual needs, strengths and experiences of every child.
The Role
As a Primary SEMH Teacher, you will play a key role in supporting pupils who experience social, emotional and behavioural barriers to learning. This is a rewarding opportunity for a nurturing, resilient and committed teacher who is passionate about helping children rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships with education and achieve their potential.

Building strong, trusting and nurturing relationships with pupils, many of whom may have experienced trauma or difficulties within mainstream education.
-
Planning and delivering engaging, creative and differentiated lessons that meet individual learning needs and support academic progress.
-
Creating a calm, structured and predictable classroom environment where pupils feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
-
Using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation approaches to support pupils and promote positive behaviour.
-
Adapting teaching to reflect pupils' individual strengths, needs, interests and emotional wellbeing.
-
Supporting pupils to develop confidence, independence, resilience and social and emotional skills.
-
Working closely with teaching assistants, parents, carers, Local Authorities and external professionals to provide consistent, personalised support.
-
Recognising and celebrating individual achievements and progress.
-
Contributing to enrichment activities and PSHE to support pupils' wider development.
-
Maintaining high expectations while responding sensitively to individual barriers to learning.
