Protocol Education is proud to be working with a primary school in Wolverhampton that’s on a real journey of improvement. Expectations are rising, for pupils, for staff, and for the wider community, with a shared commitment to high-quality teaching, strong relationships, and meaningful outcomes.

This is a school that truly believes every child deserves the right support to succeed, not just academically, but in life. Pastoral care sits at the heart of what they do, alongside a knowledge-rich curriculum and clear, consistent behaviour expectations. It’s structured, purposeful, and built around helping young people grow into confident, capable adults.

The Role

Level 3 Teaching Assistant – Behaviour and SEMH Support

We’re looking for a confident, committed Level 3 Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.

This role is all about consistency. About being the calm in the storm. About showing up, every day, as a steady, trusted adult when things feel tricky.

You’ll work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to help pupils regulate their emotions, stay engaged in learning, and develop positive coping strategies. Progress may be gradual, but the impact you’ll make will be felt daily.

You’ll be a visible, reassuring presence across the classroom and the wider school, helping pupils feel safe, understood, and empowered to make better choices.

What your day will look like:

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs on a 1:1 and small group basis

  • Using de-escalation and regulation strategies calmly and confidently

  • Building strong, consistent relationships so pupils feel respected and heard

  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, SEN staff, and external professionals

  • Supporting behaviour plans and contributing to engagement strategies

  • Helping pupils access learning while building confidence, resilience, and independence

About the School

This is a school with clear direction and strong leadership. Staff feel supported, expectations are consistent, and improvement is purposeful, not rushed.

They are committed to:

  • Delivering a structured, engaging curriculum that builds strong subject knowledge and life skills

  • Preparing pupils to be responsible, respectful, and active members of their community

  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment

  • Investing in staff development and ongoing professional growth

Families are closely involved, attendance and wellbeing are prioritised, and there’s a genuine sense of teamwork across the school. It’s a place where staff are valued and supported to do their best work.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent

  • Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural challenges, or additional needs

  • Brings a calm, patient, and resilient approach, even when the day throws a curveball

  • Understands the importance of boundaries, consistency, and empathy

  • Works well as part of a team and communicates confidently with colleagues and families

  • Is genuinely motivated to help young people thrive, both in school and beyond

This is a brilliant opportunity for a Level 3 Teaching Assistant with an interest in behaviour support, SEND, youth work, psychology, or education who wants to make a meaningful difference in a primary school setting.

If you’re someone who believes relationships come first and progress follows, this could be the right next step.
