Cover Supervisor – Barnsley

About the Role

We are looking for a confident, reliable and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Barnsley.

The successful candidate will supervise classes during the absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged with their learning and that a safe, calm and productive classroom environment is maintained.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, Teaching Assistants or individuals considering a career in teaching.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise classes across a range of year groups and subjects.
• Deliver pre-prepared lessons and activities provided by teaching staff.
• Ensure students remain focused and complete the work set by their teachers.
• Maintain a calm, positive and well-managed classroom environment.
• Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
• Take attendance and maintain appropriate classroom records.
• Support students with their learning where appropriate.
• Provide feedback to teaching staff about students' behaviour, engagement and completed work.
• Follow school safeguarding and health and safety procedures.
• Support the wider school team with duties and activities when required.

• Able to manage classroom behaviour effectively.

Experience

Previous experience working in a school, college, youth setting or education environment is desirable but not essential.
