For some children, school isn’t just new… everything is.
A new language.
New routines.
New ways to express themselves.
We’re working with a friendly primary school in BS3 who are looking for a KS1 EAL Teaching Assistant to join them in September. This is a role where patience, encouragement, and connection make all the difference.
You’ll be supporting children who are finding their feet in a new language, helping them grow in confidence, feel part of the classroom, and begin to enjoy learning in a whole new way.
If you love seeing those small breakthroughs turn into big wins, you’ll feel right at home here.
What your role will involve:
- Supporting KS1 pupils who are learning English as an additional language
- Delivering 1:1 and small group language support
- Helping children build vocabulary, phonics, and early literacy skills
- Using visual prompts, modelling, and repetition to support understanding
- Working alongside teachers to adapt lessons and resources
- Creating a warm, inclusive space where every child feels confident to join in
This role goes beyond language support, it’s about helping children feel like they belong.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience working with primary-aged children
- An understanding of the challenges EAL learners may face, especially in KS1
- A clear, calm, and encouraging communication style
- The ability to simplify language while keeping expectations high
- A patient, positive approach and a genuine passion for inclusion
Speaking another language is a bonus, but not essential.
Why Protocol Education:
- A dedicated consultant who knows the Bristol school community
- Free CPD, including Thrive training to support your development
- Ongoing support throughout your placement
- A team focused on finding the right school for you
What we need to get you started:
- Right to work in the UK
- Two proofs of address
- A CV covering the last 10 years, with any gaps explained
- Two years of references, including childcare or SEN where possible
- An overseas police check if you’ve lived abroad for 3 months or more in the last 5 years
If you’re ready to help children find their confidence, their voice, and their place in the classroom, we’d love to hear from you.
Quick one before you apply, are you Thrive trained? If not, we can help you get started with free training, it’s a great way to build confidence and stand out in EAL support roles.
