Protocol Education is recruiting a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a supportive PRU in Ferryhill from September 2026.

This role would suit someone who is confident taking the lead in the classroom but equally passionate about supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing, behaviour and personal development.

Position

• Full-time
• September 2026 start
• Monday-Friday
• Working hours between 8:30am-3:30pm and 8:30am-4:30pm
• Term-time only
• Long-term opportunity with potential for a permanent position

Your day could include

• Leading whole-class lessons
• Supporting teachers with classroom delivery
• Covering lessons independently
• Delivering targeted interventions
• Supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH
• Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement
• Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
• Creating structured and engaging learning activities
• Building strong professional relationships with pupils

You will need

• HLTA status or significant experience as a Teaching Assistant
• Confidence leading a classroom
• Experience supporting challenging behaviour
• A strong understanding of SEND and/or SEMH
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A calm and consistent approach
• Resilience when faced with challenging situations
• A genuine desire to help young people succeed
