Protocol Education is recruiting a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work within a welcoming PRU in Ferryhill from September 2026.
This role is ideal for an experienced TA or HLTA who understands that building relationships is just as important as delivering learning. You’ll support pupils with a range of SEND and SEMH needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence to succeed.
The Role
- Full-time, Monday-Friday
- September 2026 start
- Hours between 8:30am-3:30pm and 8:30am-4:30pm
- Term-time only
- Long-term position with potential for a permanent role
What you'll be doing
- Leading lessons and activities independently
- Covering classes when teachers are unavailable
- Delivering personalised interventions
- Supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH needs
- Helping pupils regulate emotions and manage behaviour
- Encouraging positive engagement with education
- Differentiating activities to meet individual needs
- Creating a calm and structured learning environment
- Working alongside teachers and support staff
About you
We're looking for someone who is:
- An experienced Teaching Assistant or HLTA
- Confident managing challenging behaviour
- Resilient and emotionally intelligent
- Patient, consistent and approachable
- Comfortable working with pupils who may display challenging behaviours
- Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers
- Confident leading learning and interventions
Experience within a PRU, SEMH setting, specialist school or challenging mainstream environment would be highly beneficial.
