SEMH Teaching Assistant – South Shields (Alternative Provision)
Start: January
Contract: Full time, long term
We’re working with an alternative provision in South Shields that supports pupils who need a more bespoke, therapeutic approach to learning. The setting offers small classes, strong pastoral support and a focus on helping young people rebuild confidence and routines.
We’re looking for a calm, steady SEMH Teaching Assistant who’s great at forming trusted relationships and keeping pupils regulated throughout the day.
You’ll be doing:
• Supporting pupils who struggle with emotional regulation, anxiety and behaviour
• Using de-escalation, restorative conversations and predictable routines
• Helping pupils engage with learning at their own pace
• Working closely with teachers, mentors and pastoral leads
You’ll need:
• Experience in SEMH, alternative provision or youth work
• A patient, compassionate approach
• Confidence working with dysregulated or vulnerable pupils
