Want to step into the classroom and keep learning on track when teachers are absent?

Secondary schools across South Tyneside are looking for dependable Cover Supervisors who can confidently manage a classroom and ensure students stay focused on their work. If you’re adaptable, enjoy working with young people, and can lead with calm authority, this role offers a great opportunity to build experience.

It’s not just about overseeing a lesson, it’s about creating the right environment so students continue learning with minimal disruption.

Your role in the classroom

You’ll be responsible for supervising pre-prepared lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring that students remain engaged and productive.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Delivering lesson content set by teaching staff
  • Maintaining a focused and respectful classroom atmosphere
  • Applying behaviour policies in a fair and consistent way
  • Keeping lessons running smoothly from start to finish
  • Reporting back to teachers with clear, brief updates

There’s no expectation to plan lessons or mark work. Your impact comes from your presence, organisation, and ability to manage behaviour effectively.

The schools you’ll work in

Our partner secondary schools in South Tyneside are supportive, well-structured environments that:

  • Have clear systems in place for behaviour and classroom management
  • Provide guidance and resources for cover staff
  • Value reliability and professionalism
  • Offer strong pastoral support for both students and staff

They’re looking for individuals who can remain steady, practical, and consistent in their approach.

Who this would suit

This position is ideal for those who:

  • Are graduates considering a career in teaching
  • Have previous experience working in schools or as supply staff
  • Come from backgrounds in coaching, youth work, or mentoring
  • Want to gain classroom experience without the added pressure of planning

Being approachable, fair, and confident is key. You don’t need to be overly strict or loud to be effective.

We believe in supporting your growth while you work.

You’ll have access to:

  • Free CPD courses focused on behaviour management, safeguarding, and classroom skills
  • Practical experience across a variety of school settings
