Occupational Therapist – Gateshead (Full-Time)

Protocol Education is working with a specialist SEND school in Gateshead to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated Occupational Therapist for a full-time position starting this September.

You'll work closely with teachers, support staff and other professionals to provide high-quality occupational therapy support tailored to the individual needs of pupils. You'll play an important role in helping children overcome barriers to learning, develop independence and participate more fully in school life.

What you'll be doing

  • Carrying out occupational therapy assessments
  • Developing personalised therapy programmes
  • Delivering sensory and therapeutic interventions
  • Supporting pupils with their motor skills and independence
  • Recommending appropriate equipment, adaptations and seating
  • Working with school staff to incorporate therapy strategies into everyday learning
  • Monitoring pupil progress and adapting interventions
  • Maintaining accurate professional records and reports
  • Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team

We're looking for someone who

  • Is a HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Has strong assessment and clinical reasoning abilities
  • Has experience working with children, young people or within education (desirable)
  • Understands the needs of pupils with SEND
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Takes a flexible, compassionate and collaborative approach
