Job Description

This role involves delivering high-quality History lessons to students within secondary education settings. The History Teacher plans, prepares, and delivers engaging and informative lessons that meet the curriculum requirements and promote students’ understanding of historical events, concepts and interpretations.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver comprehensive History lessons that inspire and motivate students.
• Develop lesson plans and teaching materials that align with the national curriculum and examination specifications.
• Assess and monitor student progress through marking work, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate records.
• Differentiate teaching strategies to meet the varied learning needs and abilities of students.
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and respect.
• Manage classroom behaviour effectively in accordance with school policies.
• Participate in departmental meetings, contribute to curriculum development and share best practise with colleagues.
• Support students’ personal development and encourage a deeper understanding of historical context and critical thinking.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in the History curriculum and assessment methods.
• Engage with parents and carers to communicate student progress and address any concerns.

Required Qualifications

• A recognised teaching qualification suitable for secondary education (such as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education or equivalent).
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is preferred but not mandatory for all roles.
• A degree in History or a closely related subject.

Education

• A minimum of an undergraduate degree in History or a relevant discipline.
