SEND Teaching Assistant – Sunderland

Protocol Education is working closely with a specialist school in Sunderland that caters to pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH (social, emotional, and mental health) needs. We are seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to provide consistent, nurturing support to students across Key Stages 1 to 4.
Your Responsibilities:

Supporting pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis, both in and out of the classroom

Assisting with learning activities, personal care (if required), and emotional regulation

Working alongside the class teacher and SENCO to adapt resources and deliver individualised support

Building positive relationships with pupils, promoting confidence and independence

Using behaviour support strategies to help manage challenging situations calmly and effectively
The Ideal Candidate Will:

Have experience working with children or young people with SEND, either in a school, care, or support setting

Be patient, empathetic, and resilient
-
Be comfortable supporting pupils with complex needs and/or behaviours that challenge

Understand safeguarding and be committed to the wellbeing of all students

Have relevant training (e.g., Team Teach, Autism Awareness, Makaton) or a willingness to learn
