We are recruiting a Qualified Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Ferryhill from September. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils who have been excluded from mainstream education and display challenging behaviour linked to SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support to manage their emotions, regulate their behaviour, and engage positively with learning. Building strong, trusting relationships will be key to helping pupils achieve success both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Managing and responding to challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Delivering interventions and supporting learning activities
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals
  • Acting as a positive role model for pupils

Requirements

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent emotional resilience and patience
  • A proactive and non-judgemental approach
