If you’ve finished uni and are thinking about a career in education, becoming a Teaching Assistant could be the perfect first step. We work closely with a wide mix of primary schools across Newcastle and Gateshead, and many of them are looking for enthusiastic graduates to support pupils in the classroom.
These are real, hands-on Teaching Assistant roles where you’ll experience day-to-day school life and get a clear sense of whether teaching or education support is the right path for you.
What you’ll be doing
Your typical working hours are 8:30 – 15:30, including a 30-minute break. No two days are the same, but a typical day could involve:
- Supporting pupils in class, either in small groups or one to one
- Helping children stay focused, confident, and engaged with their learning
- Supervising pupils during lunchtime
- Working alongside teachers and experienced support staff
- Providing extra support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
- Getting involved in lessons, activities, and the general life of the school
- Being that extra pair of hands that really makes a difference
Do I need experience?
If you don’t have any school experience yet, that’s absolutely fine. As a Teaching Assistant, you will receive:
- Access to CPD and training to build your confidence and skills
- Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant to help you progress
All we’re really looking for is a positive attitude, reliability, and an interest in working with children.
Why start as a Teaching Assistant?
- Test the waters before committing to teacher training
- Gain experience across different primary school settings
- Enter the world of education without prior experience
- Receive training and development from day one
If you’re curious about education, enjoy working with people, and want a role that feels worthwhile, this is the perfect place to start.
