Are you a Psychology graduate looking to put your understanding of behaviour, development and learning into practice?

We are looking for a SEND Support Assistant to work within a dedicated SEND classroom in a diverse school in central Newcastle. You’ll support a small group of 9 pupils with SEND, helping them access both specialist support in the school’s SEND hub and learning within mainstream classrooms.

About the School
This is a diverse, inclusive school in central Newcastle where pupils with SEND are supported through a combination of targeted provision and mainstream classroom learning. The SEND classroom provides a smaller environment where pupils can receive focused support before transitioning back into their mainstream classes.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Supporting pupils individually and in small groups within the SEND classroom
  • Helping pupils transition between the SEND hub and mainstream classrooms
  • Encouraging engagement, confidence and independence in learning
  • Supporting pupils to access classroom activities at an appropriate level
  • Working alongside teaching and SEND staff to provide consistent support
  • Building positive, professional relationships with pupils
Who We’re Looking For
This role could be particularly relevant if you’re a Psychology graduate looking to develop practical experience supporting children with additional needs.
  • A Psychology degree is desirable, but not essential
  • An interest in SEND, child development, behaviour or educational psychology
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach
  • Confidence adapting your communication to individual pupils
  • A genuine commitment to inclusive education
Why This Role Matters
You’ll have the opportunity to see how targeted SEND provision works alongside mainstream education and gain practical experience supporting pupils with different barriers to learning. It’s a valuable chance to translate academic knowledge into real-world experience while making a difference to pupils’ day-to-day school lives.
