Level 2 BSL Teaching Assistant – Gateshead (Full-Time, September Start)

Protocol Education is recruiting a dedicated Level 2 BSL Teaching Assistant to work across specialist and mainstream educational settings in the Gateshead area from September 2025.

This rewarding full-time role involves supporting learners with hearing impairments and communication needs, helping them access learning, develop independence, and build confidence in the classroom.

Please note: Due to the nature of the role, candidates must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle, as travel between multiple sites across Gateshead is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support learners using British Sign Language (BSL)
  • Facilitate effective communication between students, staff, and peers
  • Adapt support to meet individual learning and communication needs
  • Promote independence, confidence, and engagement in learning
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and specialist professionals
  • Travel between educational settings within the Gateshead area as required

Skills & Experience

  • Level 2 BSL qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, adaptable, and supportive approach
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to travel between sites across Gateshead
