SEN Teaching Assistant – Behaviour Mentor Specialist

We’re looking for a calm, compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant who understands the power of patience, empathy and consistency.

This role is ideal for someone who naturally connects with children who may find the classroom overwhelming at times, particularly those with behavioural needs. You’ll be a steady and reassuring presence, helping pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn in their own way.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting pupils with additional needs, with a strong focus on behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Building trusting, meaningful relationships that help children feel seen and heard

  • Acting as a behaviour mentor, guiding pupils through challenges with calm, clear boundaries

  • Working closely with teachers and SENCOs to implement personalised support strategies

  • Helping to create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where every child can thrive

  • Using de-escalation techniques and emotionally supportive approaches to manage behaviour sensitively

What we’re looking for

  • Experience supporting children with SEN, particularly those with behavioural needs

  • A naturally empathetic and nurturing personality

  • Someone who remains calm under pressure and responds thoughtfully rather than reactively

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly

  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning

  • Resilience, patience, and a good sense of humour, because every day is different

Why this role matters

For many children, school can feel like a challenge before the day even begins. Your role is to change that. You’ll help turn difficult moments into breakthroughs, and uncertainty into confidence.

It isn’t always easy, but it is always meaningful.
