We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to join a well-established KS1 team within a welcoming Gateshead primary school.
You will take responsibility for a class of 24 pupils with a broad range of abilities. Within the class, 6 pupils are currently working below age-related expectations in phonics and receive daily targeted intervention, supported by a full-time Level 2 Teaching Assistant. The class has established routines and responds well to structured teaching approaches.
The school places a strong emphasis on early reading, with a consistent whole-school phonics scheme (Little Wandle) embedded across EYFS and KS1. You will be expected to deliver high-quality daily phonics sessions and adapt teaching to ensure all pupils make sustained progress.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons across the KS1 curriculum
- Use assessment effectively to inform planning and next steps
- Support pupils in developing early reading, writing, and numeracy skills
- Work collaboratively with the KS1 lead and wider team
- Maintain a positive, well-managed classroom environment
What the school offers:
- A supportive KS1 team with shared planning
- Clear behaviour policies and consistent routines across the school
- Regular CPD focused on phonics and early literacy
- Leadership that is visible, approachable, and supportive
This role would suit both an ECT looking for strong support and an experienced teacher with a passion for early years education.
