SEN Learning Support Assistant – BS16

Full-Time & Permanent | BS16 (Downend) | Primary | KS2 | 1:1 Support

Are you an experienced SEN Learning Support Assistant looking for a full-time, permanent opportunity in BS16 (Downend)?

Protocol Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated LSA to provide 1:1 support to a KS2 pupil with Autism (ASD) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) within a primary school setting.

The Role

You will provide consistent, personalised support to help the pupil access learning, develop confidence and manage their individual needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a KS2 pupil.

  • Support a pupil with Autism (ASD) and PDA.

  • Build a strong, trusting and positive relationship with the pupil.

  • Support learning, communication and engagement in the classroom.

  • Implement individual learning, behaviour and support strategies.

  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.

  • Encourage independence, confidence and social development.

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team.

  • Help create a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working as an SEN LSA, SEN TA, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or similar.

  • Essential: Proven experience supporting pupils with both ASD and PDA.

  • Experience providing 1:1 support within a primary or similar setting.

  • Strong understanding of Autism and demand-avoidant profiles.

  • Patient, calm and consistent approach.

  • Ability to adapt support strategies to meet individual needs.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Reliable, resilient and committed to supporting pupil progress.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is desirable but not essential.
