Every school has those children who need a little bit extra.
An extra conversation. An extra bit of encouragement. Someone who notices when they're having a tough day and helps them get back on track.
That's where you come in.
Protocol Education is working with a friendly and supportive primary school in Downend that is looking for a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to become a positive influence in the lives of pupils who need additional support with behaviour, emotional wellbeing and engagement in learning.
This isn't about being the strictest person in the room. It's about being the person a child trusts, the role model they look up to, and the steady presence that helps them believe they can succeed.
Whether you've worked in schools, youth work, sports coaching, residential care, mentoring, support work or community settings, your experience could make a huge difference.
🚀 What Your Day Could Look Like
No two days are ever the same, but you might find yourself:
- Supporting pupils who need additional guidance to stay focused and engaged in lessons
- Helping children develop strategies to manage emotions and build resilience
- Working one-to-one with pupils who benefit from additional encouragement and consistency
- Delivering small-group activities that develop confidence, social skills and self-esteem
- Defusing challenging situations with patience, positivity and understanding
- Celebrating the small wins that lead to big progress
- Building strong relationships with pupils who need a trusted adult in their corner
- Working alongside teachers, SEND staff and pastoral teams to create the best outcomes for children
💡 Who Makes a Great Behaviour Mentor?
You might be perfect for this role if you:
- Have experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults
- Stay calm when things get challenging
- Have a good sense of humour and a positive outlook
- Are patient, resilient and emotionally intelligent
- Can build rapport quickly and maintain professional boundaries
- Believe every child deserves a fresh start, every single day
- Have experience supporting SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs (helpful but not essential)
❤️ Why You'll Love It
The best thing about this role isn't found in a job description.
It's seeing a child who struggled to enter the classroom walk in confidently.
It's hearing "I can do this" from a pupil who didn't believe they could.
It's knowing you've played a part in helping a young person succeed.
If you're looking for a role with purpose, this is it.
