Protocol Education is working with a number of welcoming and inclusive primary schools across Bristol who are seeking dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to join their teams. These roles are ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them develop both academically and socially.

Whether you've previously worked in education, childcare, youth services, residential care, support work or coaching, your experience could provide the foundations for a successful career within SEND education.

The Opportunity

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you'll play an important role in helping pupils feel supported, engaged and ready to learn.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing tailored support to children with a variety of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH needs and communication difficulties.
  • Delivering one-to-one support and small group interventions throughout the school day.
  • Helping pupils regulate their emotions and develop positive learning behaviours.
  • Adapting activities and resources to suit individual learning styles and abilities.
  • Encouraging independence, resilience and self-confidence.
  • Supporting the class teacher in creating an inclusive and engaging classroom environment.
  • Working closely with SENCOs, teachers and external professionals to ensure children receive the support they need.

  • Are empathetic, patient and able to build positive relationships.
  • Can remain calm and adaptable in a variety of situations.
  • Understand the importance of consistency and routine for children with additional needs.
  • Are committed to helping every child achieve their best.
  • Have experience with SEND, behavioural support or intervention work (desirable but not essential).

What We Need to Clear You

Before starting work through Protocol Education, we'll need:

  • Passport or evidence of your right to work in the UK
  • Two recent proofs of address
  • A CV covering the last 10 years of work and/or education history, with any gaps fully explained
  • An overseas police clearance if you have lived abroad for 3 months or longer in the last 5 years
  • An Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)

All pay rates quoted are inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This position is initially offered on a temporary basis, although permanent opportunities may become available.
